The National Honor Society is an honor recognition bestowed upon students who meet or exceed the four characteristics of the National Honor Society: Scholarship, character, leadership and service. In the fall, the GPA's of current seniors and juniors are reviewed. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.95 or better to be academically eligible. These students have met the scholarship requirement however, all four characteristics are used to determine membership. Each academically eligible candidate will receive a notice to apply and a deadline by which to do so. Students are required to submit a resume which outlines service and leadership during high school years and a personal statement explaining how they believe that they exemplify the four characteristics of the NHS. The faculty council of the National Honor Society reviews all applications and determines who will be given membership.
The National English Honor Society was founded by Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, and is endorsed by Sigma Kappa Delta, the English Honor Society for two-year colleges. With a GPA of 3.95 or better overall, and a GPA of 3.95 in English for two consecutive years, you are scholastically eligible for membership in this society. Candidates should also display an interest in fostering scholarship in the language arts throughout Secaucus High School and beyond.
