2024-2025 Honor Society Eligibility

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is an honor recognition bestowed upon students who meet or exceed the four characteristics of the National Honor Society: Scholarship, character, leadership and service. In the fall, the GPA's  of current seniors and juniors are reviewed. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.95 or better to be academically eligible. These students have met the scholarship requirement however, all four characteristics are used to determine membership. Each academically eligible candidate will receive a notice to apply and a deadline by which to do so. Students are required to submit a resume which outlines service and leadership during high school years and a personal statement explaining how they believe that they exemplify the four characteristics of the NHS. The faculty council of the National Honor Society reviews all applications and determines who will be given membership.

National English Honor Society
 

The National English Honor Society was founded by Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, and is endorsed by Sigma Kappa Delta, the English Honor Society for two-year colleges. With a GPA of 3.95 or better overall, and a GPA of 3.95 in English for two consecutive years, you are scholastically eligible for membership in this society. Candidates should also display an interest in fostering scholarship in the language arts throughout Secaucus High School and beyond.

Foreign Language Honor Society

❖COMPLETION OF LEVEL II OF A WORLD LANGUAGE WITH AN A- OR BETTER.
❖CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN LEVEL III HONORS.
❖3.95 OVERALL GPA
❖SENIOR, JUNIOR
❖WORLD LANGUAGE TEACHER RECOMMENDATION
 
 
Mu Alpha Theta
  1. Members must be high school students in grades 10 through 12.
     
  2. Members must be registered with Mu Alpha Theta at the school at which their permanent records reside.
     
  3. Members must have completed the equivalent of two years of college preparatory mathematics, including algebra and/or geometry, and have completed or are enrolled in a third year of college preparatory mathematics with final grade A in regular classes or B+ in Honors/AP classes.
     
  4. Members must have at least a GPA of 3.95 or better.

 

Science National Honor Society

  1. Members must be a junior or senior at Secaucus High School.
  2. Members must be enrolled in a science class each academic year.
  3. A member must be enrolled in at least one honors level science class during or prior to the eleventh-grade year.
  4. A member must be enrolled in at least one advanced placement science class during or prior to the twelfth-grade year.
  5. Members must maintain at least a 3.95 overall GPA.
  6. Members must also have and maintain a B+ average across all science courses. 
  7. The faculty council reviews all applications and determines who will be given membership.
 
American Technology Honor Society
 
Technological literacy: skill in the use of technology; the ability to apply knowledge, creativity, and resources to solve real world problems; and an understanding of the role of
technology in our world.
Scholarship: Above average academic performance that is defined as a cumulative GPA of 3.95 or better, or equivalent standard of excellence.
Service: The use of technology to improve or benefit the school and/or community and to help others in need.
Leadership: Independence, confidence, integrity, decision-making skills, and initiative.
