Congratulations to William De Iasi, SHS Class of 2021 Salutatorian William De Iasi is a kind and responsible young man that is always willing to help those around him. William is part of the STEM Academy, which offers the most challenging courses. These classes include Calculus III, Applied Engineering, Advanced Placement Computer Science, and Waves and Modern Physics. He has been inducted into the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, National English Honor Society, and American Technology Honor Society. While successfully completing difficult course work, William is also involved in extracurricular activities. Athletically, he is a part of the high school baseball, basketball, and track team. William also competes on a club baseball team. He enjoys participating in Junior State of America events, where he debates peers on politics, government issues, and environmental issues. William's current grade point average is 4.671 and he will be attending Rutgers University in the fall to pursue a career in engineering. Published May 13, 2021
Congratulations to Almutwakel Hassan, SHS Class of 2021 Valedictorian Almatwakel has been enrolled in the Secaucus High School STEM Academy where he has taken some of the most challenging classes offered and is graduating with a 4.725 GPA. Almutwakel's participation at Secaucus High School is not limited to academic endeavors; he is president of the robotics and chess clubs and a member of the challenge team. Athletically, Almutwakel ran track and was a member of the tennis team. Almutwakel was selected as an AP Scholar with distinction and he received first place in the school Mathfax and AMC Competitions.In the fall, he will be attending Carnegie Mellon and majoring in Statistics and Machine Learning. SHS Robotics Team Takes First Place On April 10th, SHS’s Robotics Club participated in the first of two national virtual competitions with the Botball organization. The competition was held tournament style with seeding rounds and double elimination rounds. Students in the club built and programmed two robots to complete a course on a robotics board with the goal of receiving the most points possible. Teams with more points would advance. SHS’s team placed 1st in the seeding rounds, out of 33 registered teams, and 2nd in the double elimination rounds and moved into the final being the only undefeated team. The team was also awarded Judge’s Choice based on the number of points scored during successful runs. Students in attendance at the competition on Saturday were Club President - Al Hassan, executive board members - Krushay Bhavsar, Ayush Agarwal, Naija Agarwal, club members - Aaditya Shroff and Anay Tillu, and club advisor - Ms. Capobianco. Club members not present at the competition: Raphael Miguel, Vatsal Dwivedi, Manish Kandepalli, Dev Chandarana, Danny Argudo, Arnav Pande, Preya Patel, Mahir Wadhwani, James Cottrell, Genci Duraku, Shaurya Baranwal, and Ryan Badi.
