SAIL SETS eyes on POLAR EXPRESS !! S.A.I.L. , Key Club and Interact students volunteered at the Huber Street PTA's Polar Express Movie Night held Friday Night form 6-9 PM. Student Government Takeover Day at Town Hall !! Mrs. Tara Taveras, Student Government Advisor took the SGO members to the Secaucus Town Hall for a day of sharing roles,learning the day to day details and operations of the Town Hall. Students took on the roles of mayor,clerk,police chief,judge etc. They shadowed the employee and loved the experience of gaining information about the important responsibilities of the daily management of the town hall. High School Rotary Club spreads Thanksgiving cheer !! On Monday Evening, November 21st, students from the Secaucus High School Rotary Club volunteered at the Hoboken Shelter.. Throughout the month of November the Interact students collected hygiene supplies the shelter needed for it's guests. Students then prepared a dinner service for over 50 guests, cleaned the shelter, washed and folded laundry and helped with the shelter's mailing service. The President of the town Rotary club, Rick Saltarelli joined the students and Miss Lee to help out the group as well. The Rotary was able to collect over $200 to provide the dinner service for that evening as well as, provide additional supplies for the shelter. LIP SYNC COMPETITION DRAWS HUGE CROWDS !! Spirit week continues with students in grades 9-12 participating in the annual Lip Sync contest. The junior class beat out the seniors,freshmen, and sophomores. It was a great night of fun,shared talents, and laughter. Mu Alpha Theta Math team wins first place The members of the Secaucus High School Math Honor Society, Mu Alpha Beta, participated in the Seton Hall Math Competition on Saturday Nov.19,2016.The math team came in first place out of 31 public high schools who participated. Some of the schools participating were Northern Highlands Regional,Livingston,Millburn and Bergen County Tech high schools. The team consists of teachers Pavlina Zavorotnyaya,Nader Alkhabbaz,Myron Yang,Cheng Zhong,Kevin Gee,David Perez,Ankit Patel,Akash Rana,Sambhav Jadeep,Nisha Patel,Hong Ngyen and teacher Aomar Elassa. Ken Zhong won first place in individual round while Kevin Gee took second. Congratulations to these Secaucus High Schoolstudents who attend one of the top high schools in NJ. Educational Services Professional of the Year !! Congratulations to Ms. Helen Bacigalupo on being selected as the Educational Services Professional of the Year award for Secaucus High School.I am a graduate of Saint Peter’s College with a degree in psychology. She attended New Jersey City University where she has a master’s degree in counseling. She also attended Saint Peter’s University for a supervisor’s certificate. She has been an educator for the past thirty nine years and began my career teaching social studies at the Academy of Saint Aloysius in Jersey City. In 1984, She transitioned into guidance and served as both a counselor and as the Director of Guidance. She spent her career as a counselor in Hudson County. She is a member of the Hudson County Personnel and Guidance Association and have served as a past president of that organization. In 1998, she was the recipient of the Hudson County Counselor of the County Award. In the fall of 2006, she was hired by the Secaucus School district to work in the high school as a counselor. Here she counsels grades 9-12 and serves as an advisor to the National Honor Society. Published November 3, 2016
Governor's Educator of the Year !! Congratulations to Mrs. Allison Urbanovich on being selected as being the 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year at Secaucus High School.Mrs. Allison Urbanovich is a graduate of Rutgers University where she completed a bachelor's degree in History. She then earned her M.A.T. in Special Education and Supervision from New Jersey City University. She was hired in 2004 by the Secaucus Public School District, and has been teaching at Secaucus High School for the past 11 years. Throughout Mrs. Urbanovich’s career she has worked in both the Social Studies department teaching grades 9-12 and in the Special Education department Extended School Year program. She served as the advisor for the Class of 2009 and the Student Government Organization. Over the years, she has taken an active role in writing departmental curricula, was a member of the Excellent Educators for New Jersey District Evaluation Committee, and a presenter for the Bullying Prevention Institute Committee. Mrs. Urbanovich is currently the advisor for the Peer Leadership Club and ROOTS, a member of the School Improvement Panel (ScIP), facilitates the High School Building Mentoring Program and is the Corresponding Secretary for the Secaucus Education Association.Mrs. Urbanovich resides in Rutherford with her husband, Nick and her two sons, JT and Nicholas.
