SHS/SMS Students Join Together to Dance for a Cause

On Friday, November 17th, the Secaucus S.A.I.L. students and Secaucus Middle School S.G.O., under the direction of Ms. Stacey Lee and Ms. Toni Ann Palmisano, came together at the school's first Dance-A-Thon for Charity Event.  The event was held from 6-9 P.M. as approximately 120 of Secaucus's students danced for charities that were near and dear to their heart to songs from the 80’s, 90’s, and today.  Students arrived decorated in their team shirts that they created in support of their charity. Charities included the Secaucus Animal Shelter, UNICEF, Make a Wish Foundation, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Autism Speaks, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, J-Shine amongst many others.  The energy of the students was contagious as they competed to be the last team dancing.  At one point during the event everyone joined together to create a big conga line. The unity amongst Middle School and High School students showcased just how much they embraced the purpose of the event. This was a surely a sight to remember.

Ten teams made it to the dance off portion of the contest where the winner was selected by the applause of the crowd.  The winning 8th grade students, Alanna Highsmith and Latisha Lubega, selected The American Red Cross for Puerto Rico as their charity of choice. The group as a whole was able to raise over $1200.

A special appearance was made by former NY Giants player Michael Cox who came to support the student’s efforts.  A special thank you to the parent and teacher volunteers, Middle School PTA, our security team, custodial staff, councilmen and all those who helped to make this night a huge success!
